Weaving

I wasn’t interested in weaving until a few years ago when a visit to a local craft fair sparked my interest in this most traditional of crafts. I saw that it was a discipline that could be interpreted in a very different, modern way, especially once I started using some beautiful hand-knitting yarns in my woven projects.

I have developed a style of my own, using a simple rigid heddle loom and just letting the yarns come to life in my hands as the cloth evolves in front of my eyes. I rarely start with much more than a basic plan of which colours I intend to use and a vague idea of what I’d like to make with the fabric when I’ve woven it – and then I just let the creative process take over. I have made scarves, bed-footers, hand and tea-towels, place mats and coasters, table-runners, shawls, stoles on my loom, as well as lengths of unique fabric ready for cutting and sewing into fashion garments. I find the whole process of weaving immensely satisfying and very, very calming.

New workshop dates: All workshops and classes are currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic but will resume as soon as possible

Weave and waffle’ drop-in days:  We’ve all heard about ‘knit and natter’ groups but ‘weave and waffle’ is an exciting and contemporary first!

Weaving’s becoming trendy again!

Have you always fancied having a go at weaving but don’t have a loom or perhaps you already have a loom but don’t know what to do with it? And would you like to come and try your hand at weaving on a rigid heddle loom in the company of other friendly, like-minded people with a little gentle tuition, lots of chat, tea and biscuits with some fabulous hand-knitting yarns on hand so you can explore this ancient craft tradition in a relaxed and fun environment.

My ‘Weave and Waffle’ drop-in days are held in my Cambridgeshire studio on the third Friday of every month between 2pm and 5pm, £5 per person but please let me know if you’re coming beforehand so I can ensure there’s a loom ready for you – or you can bring your own along if you have one and just join in the chat on the day.
